Objects with surface
Objects that are tightly wrapped with charcoal tree rubbings on washi. The washi is tightly glued on using a traditional method of glue-making utilizing shofu-nori, a wheat starch. The glue, paper, and charcoal are all hand made and natural, and the objects they wrap around range from tree branches to computer screens or cassette players.
The tree rubbings come from particular parts of the world, as do the objects itself, creating a connection between the two and Miyamori as its medium. In one of her larger pieces, a gilded boat covered in rubbings, Amasia, each of the tree rubbings come from five different continents and come together to create a spiritual representation of a foretold theory of the merging of the Americas and Asia.
